Proposed Policy Recommendations - India

 


Dr. Raju M. Mathew, Director of the Two-day National Seminar on Knowmatics, Knowledge Technology and Knowledge Industry: Kerala’s Developmental Potentialities, held at the Calicut University Campus on 27th and 28th May 2005 submitted a detailed report to the President of India. As a follow up action for the contribution of the key paper by the President Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam for the seminar., Dr, Mathew has also put forward a set of policy recommendations for the consideration of the President for implementing by the Government of India. They include: 

1. The Government of India may declare Knowledge as the most valuable Wealth of the Nation (as stated in the Vedas and the Upanishads) and Knowledge Technology and Knowledge Industry as the Front Line Technology and Industry and formulate and implement National Knowledge Technology & Knowledge Industry Policy and Strategy so as to make India a world leader in Knowledge Industry within five years.

2. The Government of India may establish a National Centre / Institute on Knowmatics, Knowledge Technology and Knowledge Industry for conducting the world class research and development activities in these fields. 

3. The U.G.C. may be asked to encourage universities in India to conduct advanced study and research in Knowmatics, Knowledge Technology and Knowledge Industry.
